Scullcap
(Scutellaria lateriflora)
COMMON NAMES: Blue scullcap, blue pimpernel, hood wart, hooded
willow herb, side-flowering scullcap, mad dogweed, mad weed, helmet flower, and American scullcap.
MEDICINAL PARTS: Whole plant.
DESCRIPTION: Antispasmodic, nervine, tonic, diuretic. Scullcap is one of the best nerve tonics, often combined with others. Very quieting and soothing to the nerves of people who are easily excited. In delerium tremens will produce sleep. Good in neuralgia, aches and pains, Useful in St. Vitus’s dance, shaking palsy, convulsions, convulsions, fits, rheumatism, hydrophobia, epilepsy, and bites of poisonous insects and snakes. Splendid o suppress undue sexual desire. The following combination is a positive remedy for wakefulness.
Since Scullcap is an antispasmodic, it is one of the most effective nervous system relaxant.
PREPARATION AND DOSAGE:
Infusion: Take 1 tbsp. of scullcap, nerve root, hops, catnip, and blackcohosh, mix together. Take a heaping tsp. to a cup of boiling water. This combination is very useful in aiding a morphine addict to sleep.
